Matar Chi Usal as said in Marathi language, means Green Peas Vegetable. Green peas, one of my most favourite vegetables, were previously available only during the winters. I remember my mom making all the different varieties of green peas dishes during that  period. Matar usal, Maatar patal bhaji, Matar pattice, etc.

Then, there wasn’t even this concept of frozen peas! Today besides frozen peas, we get fresh green peas in the market all year long! Though the quality and the price do differ enormously! But now we have the privilege of relishing this healthy vegetable as and when we want.

Green peas are the immature seeds of dried peas often called field peas. Green peas are really powerhouses of nutrition that are a boon for our health. These peas are low in calories as compared to beans, another legume. Being high in nutrition, these sweet green peas have a large number of health benefits! Green peas being a very delicious and healthy vegetable, makes for great dishes too!

Serve Matar Chi Usal, along with Rotis and Carrot Cucumber Tomato Salad with Lemon and Coriander for a delectable weeknight dinner.
